Beaded sawtooth fill lg $16.00 USD
A very easily placed background pattern for a Sawtooth Star (other variations are available for Ohio and LeMoyne Stars etc, and if not there - just send me an email.
There are three double rows of beads or pearls fitting neatly behind a pieced block. Provides great texture - especially for negative spaces.
It is one block with no jump stitches or no sew lines in it. I had three goals in mind:.
- the rows of snakes should line up perfectly between the triangle areas and the square areas
- to sew out continuously - without any no sew lines having to be dealt with within the pattern.
- to fit the star presented on the machine exactly - including those people who use 'creative' piecing - they do not always want this pointed out to them!

The red dotted line (and illustration on the right) shows where a perfect Sawtooth star would fit - but, as can be seen, there is some room for latitude.

Design Features
- using the fill feature on a Statler Stitcher means ditch stitching around the star is completed as part of the pattern.
- circles are the outermost round - not lines. Lines (especially very straight ones) tend to emphasise where the piecing is not absolutely correct. The outer round of circles are just so much more forgiving, and the lines further in are just fine.

Tips & Info
- to fit well place block with a margin = block size x .0275
(this is noted in the Designer Notes) - do audition though just to check
that this is a sufficient margin for your blocks. The more 'creative'
the piecing, the larger the margin that will be required.
Beware - smaller margins make things look funny around the star itself. - when placed in a 12 inch block then the largest pearl is .38 inch in diameter and the smallest .22 inch in diameter
- For Statler Stitchers:
place this block with recommended margin
- convert the boundary used to place the pattern into a pattern - or delete it.
- trace a boundary around the pieced star
- highlight the background pattern, right click on it, select 'fill', 'outside'. - alternatively, it can be used with the trim function - in which case it would stitch up to the star boundaries you have registered and tie off as per your settings.
- Intelliquilter users - for placement audition to determine suitable margin. Cut away area where the pieced star is.
