Nana's Quilt
Dorothy DrakeSue B's Quilting, Wellington, New Zealand
'I started out by buying six fat quarters that toned with one another, later adding more. This is my first completed hexagon quilt.' - Dorothy
When I first saw this quilt it was proudly on display at Stonestead's Annual Quilt Festival - held in summer, on the first weekend in February - and I just loved the freshness of it.
Sue told me that when Dorothy had first brought it in she had requested that just an 'all-over pattern' would do. Sue declined - very wise! How could you just go willy nilly all over this wonderful spring garden?
The quilting Sue ended up doing has really brought this darling to life - each bouquet has been given its own honour!
The back of the quilt shows just how well these two patterns have worked together - forming ovals as they almost meet.
ps - I was interested in the word 'first' which she had included in her quilt story - and sure enough, she has done another one - so I am looking forward to seeing that one.
