Karamu's Rope Sample Quilt
Ross and Maria Munro, Karamu Quilting, Hastings, New ZealandRoss and Maria are the distributors in New Zealand for Gammill and Statler Stitchers.
They take one of their machines to shows around the country to demonstrate what it can do. During these shows they stitch out (across the width of the machine bed) the outline (digitised by Ross) for a band sampler. It has lots of different areas in it which can be filled with all manner of patterns - borders, squares, triangles, rectangles, Flying Geese ...
This outline gives them lots of room to play - and also allows show visitors to play.
Much to my delight, at the New Zealand Quilt Symposium (which in 2013 was held in Taupo) they decided to play with my patterns in their samplers.
At the end of the show (or during) these samples are cut off and put up for sale.
I was really pleased to have a close look at this one as I had not seen the Rope border stitched out, I had not seen the Feather Pearl square squashed, nor had I seen the Feather med square stitched.
Maria was the one who had initially asked for a Flying Geese pattern - so when I supplied her with a good dozen, she of course wanted to see them all stitched out (not just the one she chose for her customer's quilt). This show was going to give her the perfect opportunity.
I love this Sampler - the patterns really have no co-ordination, but that is the beauty of it!
ps - the thread colour used for the outline is the same as that of the pattern stitching. None of the patterns stitch an outline around them.

- 4 repeats in each of the base and top of quartered square: Loops tri g p2p
- 4 repeats in each side of the quartered square: Loops tri e p2p
- Flying Geese short band down side - centres: Shealth FG tri !bldr (2)
- Rectangle - a square pattern made to fit!: Feather pearl 1 sq 12a xh
- Bottom Square: Feather med sq
