Log Cabin - uneven logs
Betty Perry, MexicoCarol Gutierrez, Home on the Range Quilting, New Mexico
Carol has done an amazing job of quilting Betty's uneven log cabin quilt.
She immediately saw the white areas as circles and decided that they would be her quilting feature areas. These white areas were only ever quarter circles when Betty made the blocks. It was not until the blocks came together that the full circles appeared. It did mean though, that quarter circles and half circles remained around the edges.
Carol requested if it was possible to reformat the full Feather wreath pattern into a half circle and quarter circle pattern which would run continuously - rather than her use the trim function on the full pattern, which would have resulted in lots of tie-offs.
The Twirls frame which Carol used in the coloured part of the logs was also an adaptation of another pattern. Initially this frame pattern was one which had been split into quarters through its diagonals, but by splitting it on the horizontal and vertical into corners Carol had just what she wanted to perfectly set off and showcase her feathers.
