The quilt which started the journey was one done by Judy Allen of Wellington, New Zealand. It was Judy's first quilt! And I can attest to the fact that this is true - I left her picking up the quilt from Sue Burnett (Busy Bee Quilting, Wellington) and she was receiving instructions about how one bound a quilt.
Judy made this for her parents' 60th wedding anniversary - and what a great gift to receive.
When taking the top into be quilted she also brought the magazine page in to show Sue - to give Sue some idea of the type of quilting she was wanting. Sue went to work - but while what she did was in many ways quite different to the one shown in the magazine, it had the same feel and has ended up just fantastic.
The quilting
- the coloured areas were kept very plain and the white areas were left to be the showcase
- the centre square was treated as a square
- the areas between the chevrons were quilted as chevrons, sometimes single, sometimes double chevrons which emphasized the horizontals, verticals and diagonals
- next Sue could see large rectangles. She decided to use the same pattern as the centre. While the circles would not be true circles, and much larger than the centre - it would all add to the texture variation.
- the remaining small and large triangles had the same pattern placed in them - with the different sizing adding yet more variation.

The main photo is a fabulous quilt quilted by Jackie and one which won two prizes at the 2018 Sauder Village Quilt Show in Archbold Ohio: Best Machine Quilting and First place in its Class. Very well deserved. Jackie was the one who asked for the rectangle to be drawn - she did not want to stretch a square to fit in there.<br>
At the show was Kimberly Einmo (in the right of the photo) - the patchwork designer. She loved the circles! What a wonderful time it must have been for Jackie - to win prizes and have Kimberly there.
Quilting Patterns Used
- Centre Square and rectangles around the outside: Beaded Square lg
- Triangles in the large white areas: Snircles tri 13 p2p
- Triangle below the yellow Arrowheads (the 9 multiple): Snakes tri vert p2p (8)
- The white chevron areas between the coloured arrowheads - sometimes single, sometimes double.: Snircles single chevron p2psu
- The squares in the outer corners - the 11 multiple: Snakes squares p2p ( 7)
- this is a rectangle for use in the outside rectangles - although a stretched square was used in the actual stitchout.: Beaded rect lg
- Jackie used this in her outside border: Ding Dong a bdr & cnr (2)
